2018 Highlights

  • Jan. 16: Grade School field trip to Minnesota History Center
  • Feb. 11: Dorcas Guild prepared gift bags for ILC students
  • Feb. 14: Midweek Lenten services begin with the theme, “Lord, Abide with Me.” Services are preceded with soup suppers.
  • Feb. 18: A special Call meeting is held to call a second full-time teacher. Heidi Nelson was extended the call who accepted this on March 11.
  • Feb. 24: The Dorcas Guild and others, including children, assemble bead cross necklaces for the Mission Helper Trip in July
  • Mar. 4: Farewell for student teacher Michaela Winters
  • Mar. 9-11: Three children from Grace compete with Berea at the CLC Grade School Basketball Tourney at ILC in Eau Claire
  • Apr. 1: Easter Festival Worship Service preceded by breakfast served by men in the congregation
  • Apr. 12: The Grace Student Fair is held with a focus on books and authors
  • Apr. 22: The Voters approve a contract to update the parking lot with a cost of ~$50,000. Ellen Bergstrom received and accepted a call to be a part-time volunteer teacher, continuing as co- principal.
  • Apr. 27: Immanuel Lutheran High School Visitors’ Day is held in Eau Claire with six students attending from Grace.
  • May 7: Grace School Outing for the upper grade students at Springbrook Nature Center, lunch at the Muddy Cow, and Urban Air Adventure Park
  • May 20: Confirmation of Daniel Hein, Alieu Kanneh, and Elaina Yang 2018 Confirmands
  • May 24: Grade School presents “Three Tasty Tales” at its Spring Program
  • May 25: Grace School dismisses for summer.
  • May 28: Grace School Graduation (Daniel Hein, Nicole Holmberg, Alieu Kanneh) and recognition of other graduates
  • June 7: Grace School students, parents, and supporters walk in Spring Lake Park Tower Days Parade promoting our Christian Day school
  • June 9: Grace hosts the Minnesota Delegate Conference
  • June 12-13: The parking lot asphalt is removed, along with the flag pole island. The entire lot and parsonage driveway is repaved and restriped.
  • June 21-24: The CLC Convention is held in Eau Claire with Rick Nelson and Bill Rust as Grace’s delegates, Pastor Hein also attending
  • July 22: Installation of Heidi Nelson as second full-time teacher
  • July 23-27: Vacation Bible School with average attendance of 52 students, 43 of them non-members. 42 students were 3rd grade and younger and half of those were kindergarten age or younger. 59 total students registered.
  • Aug. 19: Immanuel Lutheran High School 2018-19 school year begins with Grace students Kathleen Baker, Daniel & Julianna Hein, and Alieu Kanneh.
  • Aug. 27: Opening of Grace 2018-19 school year with 19 children enrolled in grades Kindergarten through 8th (eight of them non-members). Tuition for non-members was increased. Two school bathrooms were converted to family bathrooms.
  • Sept. 16: Church picnic on church grounds
  • Oct. 2-3: Pastor Hein attends the Minnesota Pastoral Conference at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran in Red Wing, MN
  • Oct. 14: Mission Festival with Missionary Peter Evenson from India as guest speaker, also having a presentation in Bible Class
  • Oct. 17-19: Teachers Janelle Hein and Heidi Nelson attend the CLC Teachers’ Conference in West Columbia, SC.
  • Nov. 4: Minnesota Area CLC Reformation Festival at Berea Lutheran Church in Inver Grove Heights with the theme “The Reforming Gospel.”
  • Dec.: December Services are conducted by Pastors Daniel Fleischer, Dave Schierenbeck, John Schierenbeck, and Prof. Paul Naumann allowing Pastor Hein time to recuperate from back surgery
  • Dec. 5: Advent worship services begin with Pastor Daniel Fleischer preaching on the theme, “The Season of Advent”
  • Dec. 19: Congregational Christmas dinner and Candlelight Worship Service
  • Dec. 20: Grace School presents a concert at Northtown Mall
  • Dec. 24: Christmas Eve worship in which the children present the Christmas message with the theme: “Flow, River, Flow”
  • Dec. 25: Christmas Day Worship service
