Confession & Absolution: …………………… 1 John 4:7-11; 4:15-19; 3:16-21; WS 709
Pastor: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Congregation: Amen.
P: Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God;
C: And everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
P: He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
C: In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent
His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.
P: In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the
propitiation for our sins.
C: Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
Sing []: I was in bondage, Sin, death, and darkness;
God’s love was working to make me free.
Therefore I’ll say again:
God loves me dearly, God loves me dearly, loves even me.
P: Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.
C: And we have known and believed the love that God has for us.
P: God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.
C: Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of
judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.
P: There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment.
But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
C: We love Him because He first loved us.
Sing []: He sent forth Jesus, My dear Redeemer;
He sent forth Jesus and set me free.
Therefore I’ll say again:
God loves me dearly, God loves me dearly, loves even me.
P: By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us.
C: And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
P: But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need,
C: And shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?
P: My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
C: And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.
P: For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
C: Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.
Sing []: Jesus, my Savior, Himself did offer;
Jesus, my Savior, paid all I owe;
Therefore I’ll say again:
God loves me dearly, God loves me dearly, loves even me.

Confession of Faith:…………………….. Luther’s Explanation to the Second Article
I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from
eternity, and also true man, born of the virgin Mary, is my Lord. He has
redeemed me, a lost and condemned person, purchased and won me
from all sin, from death, and from the power of the devil, not with gold
or silver, but with His holy, precious blood and His innocent suffering
and death. He did this that I should be His very own, live under Him in
His kingdom, and serve Him in eternal righteousness, innocence, and
joy; just as He is risen from death, lives and reigns in eternity. This is
most certainly true.
Response: …………………………………….. Tune of WS 709: God Loves Me Dearly
Sing []: God’s love brought Jesus, gentle and faithful,
Seeking and saving that which was lost.
Therefore rejoice and praise His boundless mercy;
His love eternal sought even me.
God’s love is soothing all of my sorrows,
God’s love is healing all of my wounds.
Therefore rejoice and praise His boundless mercy;
His love eternal sought even me.
